A contemporary art show in aid of St Helena Hospice

OUR MISSION
In February 2024, Art at the Park at Braxted Park raised over £80,000 for Home-Start Essex. We set out to create a show that was a joy to visit, beautifully curated in a magnificent setting, and to make buying art exciting, easy and accessible.
We more than achieved our aim. Inspired by that success, we're continuing with Art at the Tower, 4th to 7th February 2027, at Layer Marney Tower, in aid of St Helena Hospice. Same spirit, new venue and new cause.
We want Art at the Tower to be an exciting show that everyone enjoys, with original contemporary art to suit every taste, style and budget. Buying art shouldn't feel daunting or exclusive, and we want to show how easy it can be. Trust your own eye, choose what you love, and enjoy original art in your home.
Commissioned for Art at the Tower, this painting by Lydia Chapman, one of our new young artists, marks our move from Braxted Park to Layer Marney Tower.
ABOUT THE CHARITY
St Helena Hospice provides care and support for local people across north east Essex, who face incurable illness and bereavement.
The charity supports people at their most vulnerable time, helping them make their own choices and live with dignity. By focusing on their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, St Helena Hospice brings comfort and relief to people who need it, where they need it.
Since opening the doors to its first patients in 1985, St Helena Hospice remains committed to delivering quality care and support for people in the final phase of life, alongside their loved ones, whether at home, at the inpatient unit or over the phone with SinglePoint 24/7 advice line and rapid response.
Last year St Helena Hospice supported 4,478 people at home and in the hospice inpatient unit.
80% of the income needed to run St Helena is raised through the local community giving donations, leaving gifts in Wills, buying in St Helena shops, playing Your Hospice Lottery and more. Vital funds for St Helena are also raised through supporting its commercial and social enterprise activities.

the venue
Layer Marney Tower is a Tudor Palace, built as a statement house by Henry, 1st Lord Marney, Henry VIII’s Lord Privy Seal, in the 1520’s. It is England’s tallest Tudor Gatehouse, standing within the Essex landscape, commanding views to the River Blackwater. The exhibition will be taking place in the historic Long Gallery and the beautifully restored Medieval Essex Barn.
ORGANISERS
We are a committee of eight volunteers, all with other jobs, but all sharing a passion for art and the pleasure it brings: buying a piece we love, finding the right spot for it at home, visiting exhibitions, and even pursuing our own creative endeavours.
We also share a personal connection to St Helena Hospice. Last year, a very dear friend of ours died in its inpatient unit, and she and her family received the most wonderful care. Seeing it first-hand showed us how invaluable the hospice's work is, and why raising funds is so vital.
